<2> The Fruition

Updated: Sep 21, 2021

From the time we decided we wanted to go, to the time we went, was so sudden. It was like the blink of an eye; we made a decision and ran with it.

We researched flights and at the time, only Alaska Airlines were accepting dogs in cargo and they're a U.S. based company... We were in Canada. So I did the only thing we could do, I called and booked us tickets, regardless of how expensive or difficult it would/ could be. Fortunately for us, the Airline flies out of the Vancouver airport, so we had a road-trip ahead of us. There was no possible way we were leaving our sweet dog, Mako, behind. She's a part of our family and was our first 'kid'.

When Chase got home from work that day, he wasn't particularly pleased with me having booked our flights. He was adamant that we weren't ready. He was right. However, we made it happen. Somehow.

Shortly after, I was driving to the pet store to buy Mako's airplane approved kennel when it happened. One of the worst days of my life. We were in a car accident and our vehicle was written off. That's not what hurt though, our baby was in the car.

Fortunately (and go follow Michelle on IG *right now*) I had been following @safeintheseat on IG and read the car seat manual and our vehicle's manual several times, his car seat was installed properly and he was entirely unharmed. Not a single bruise, scratch or mark on him; I however, left with a very sore and bruised shoulder from the seat belt and a huge scar tissue lump from the Charlie-Horse I got from my thigh hitting the console. I was sore for days. I sobbed and wailed while holding his tiny body as we waited for paramedics.

Yet, what hurt the most was knowing that my sweet baby was in any danger at all; It still makes me feel sick.

Why am I sharing this? It would have been a catalyst if I hadn't already purchased the tickets. Instead, it was a sign.

We had been able to sell so many of our belongings, yet didn't know how to go about selling our vehicle. Then, we didn't have to. It was gone. Not only that, but we got back more money than we owed on our loan, so we used that money to pay for a rental vehicle to drive to Vancouver!

Sometimes really shitty things happen and sometimes there's a really beautiful silver lining.

This accident was just one of those shitty situations. We had several.
